WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO VOLUNTEER?

You must be at least 15 years of age to volunteer.

IN WHAT AREAS OF THE RAILROAD ARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED?

Volunteers are needed in all areas of our operation. From train crew to ticket sales, and from onboard train narrator to grounds crew, there are many areas in which we can use your help. Please see the Volunteer Opportunities page for more detailed information.

I DON'T WANT TO WORK ON THE TRAINS... IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO?

Yes. We are always looking for people who have unique skills and talents. Running a railroad isn't just about operating trains; it also involves marketing, landscaping, grant writing, event planning and many other non-railroad jobs.

DO I NEED ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN RAILROADING TO BE A VOLUNTEER?

No. All you need is a willingness to learn and a desire to work. Although some knowledge of trains is a plus, we'll be more than happy to train you in whatever area of volunteering you're interested.

CAN I BECOME A VOLUNTEER IF I HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN RAILROADING?

Yes. We have several volunteers who currently work for Class I, shortlines, and other tourist railroads - we'll start you in a position that best suits your prior experience.

DO I HAVE TO VOLUNTEER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS IN A GIVEN TIME PERIOD?

No. Some volunteers work every weekend and others work one day every other month. We are grateful for any service you can give us - the amount of time you wish to donate to the railroad is entirely up to you.

CAN I VOLUNTEER IN MORE THAN ONE AREA OF SERVICE?

Absolutely! You are more than welcome to participate in more than one area of service. In fact, many of our volunteers are qualified to do multiple jobs. And if you start in one area of service and decide it's not for you, you're more than welcome to try other areas of service to find the one that suits you best.
