Through a series of train rides, explore the many reasons why the original Wilmington & Western was built to serve the Red Clay Valley and beyond. You will learn about the railroad’s rich history and how we came to be through narratives and visits to sites along the line where it all began. Travel back to the years following the Civil War where a vision became a reality that still survives today. This year’s Journey Back in Time excursion will be the first in the series. This event is not recommended for children.
The banner photo above looks west from Bridge 6G (Brandywine Springs) toward Faulkland Road. It is part of The Charles S. Philips Collection of photographs taken between 1895 and 1897 which show the Wilmington & Western Railroad in its infancy.
